24,000 children died today from starvation. What makes you think God will answer your prayers?

Atheistic scientists, Dawkins assures us most scientists are atheists, have developed, and continue to develop, weapons that, if used, will poison or even eliminate all future generations of children.

What makes you think atheists have humanity’s interests at heart?

  2. Science can be used for good or evil.

What does that have to do with the supposed existence of a loving omnipotent god who could stop this suffering any time s/he chose?

Believers claim that a loving omnipotent god exists who is interested in humankind and who intervenes in our daily lives. They believe this god answers all kinds of prayers from those for parking spots to those for cures from incurable diseases (but only when it’s god’s will of course).

So all we are pointing out here is the moral vacuity of believing that, at the same time that your loving god is helping you get the stain out of your dress shirt before an important meeting, s/he is letting hundreds of children die horrible deaths.

  3. @1 – Way to completely duck the question. What size tank do you keep your red herrings in, and do you use a canister filter or a HOB?

  4. The same could be said for faith, Mr. Christensen. There are those who believe in Jesus Christ, as well as the belief that they should kill “fags” in Jesus’ name, along with all other “unworthy” people.

Faith and science are double-edged swords, sir.

Julie, I agree, faith and science are double-edged swords.

I also think atheists make a lot of straw man arguments, and try to dodge all responsibility for atrocities committed by atheists…as per the example I gave.

Some of the posters claim to be worried about starving children…then do something about it. I do.

In the meantime, scientists have set up a situation where ALL the children of ALL future generations could be ELIMINATED in theory.

When atheists start to whine about that, then they will have a leg to stand on.

  6. The question is, why doesn’t GOD do something about it, if he exists.

  7. Daniel is right, Jim, you’re missing the point. The question isn’t, “why aren’t theists doing more about social justice?” The question is, why exactly do theists make requests of God through prayer and expect results? Why do theists call it a miracle when they find a good parking space? With all the suffering in the world, do theists really think that God is going to answer that request that it be clear and sunny for little Johnny’s t-ball game tomorrow?

  8. “In the meantime, scientists have set up a situation where ALL the children of ALL future generations could be ELIMINATED in theory.”

Talk about a straw man argument.

  9. In theory… as opposed to in practise, as it’s happening right now

as for scientists producing the weapons… ever heard of fertilizer? That’s a scientific discovery… artificial ammonia feeds a third of the world’s population. Can you say the same about faith-based initiatives?

  10. “In the meantime, scientists have set up a situation where ALL the children of ALL future generations could be ELIMINATED in theory.”

The disgusting Christian god already wiped out almost all the world’s children (and puppies and kittens) once (the flood). In theory (the non-scientific theory that such a god exists), that god has set up (created) a situation (the world) where it could eliminate all children forever.
