By Who Accepts Evolution? — I’m sure you’ll all be shocked. According to this poll, only 8% of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 22% of Mormons, and 24% of Evangelical Protestants accept evolution. Even Muslims were higher than those three crowns of intelligence — 45% of Muslims accept evolution!

This makes me question how it was presented. NO JW’s believe in ‘macro’ evolution.
@Ty: You don’t think there are some JW’s who are a bit liberal in their interpretation of Genesis? Also, I think theistic evolution was official JW doctrine until the 1920’s (source).
Nope, not a liberal JW to be seen. In fact, telling other people that you believe in evolution, or that the genesis account is not literal, could actually be a disfellowshipping offense.

WRT the evolution poll, the odd one for me was Catholics. What was it, only something around 50% of Catholics accept evolution yet the Vatican itself accepts it. Catholics are almost impenetrable. You could never guess what one believes.

Not surprising, considering most Mormons are from what, Kansas and Utah (or something) or wherever that type spawns from.
I’m surprised at the higher %’s of Mormons/Evangelists really, I’d expect them to be as low or lower than JW.

When you ask male Muslims this their response is often very interesting. Most laugh out loud then recoil. They’ve never even contemplated this idea. And when you ask, does a female martyr get 72 boy virgins? It really shows the absurdity of it all.
Some of the most brilliant people of the financial world handed all their assets to Bernie Madoff, who lost every penny for them. Others, basking in their glow of financial savvy, brought down the entire worldwide financial system. It wasn’t uneducated people who did this. It was highly educated ones.
Educated people can be herded into the popular mindsets of the day just like uneducated people. In some ways, they are more vulnerable, since they are often obsessed with not about losing face among their peers. I believe you’re focusing on the wrong factors. More significant than formal education is the boldness not to be bullied into thinking a certain way just because everyone else does.
You imply that if only those with less education were exposed to more of it – then they’d see the foolishness of rejecting evolution. Hogwash. I sort of like the way John Lennon put it (thanks, SBH) “Everything they told me as a kid has already been disproved by the same type of ‘experts’ who made them up in the first place.”
That, from the Jehovah’s Witnesses point of view.

But in response to the evolution thing, what is it hurting if someone doesn’t believe in macro-evolution? Are they personally offending you? I’m going to guess that most of those same people are opposed to homosexuality, but you would obviously not want them to infringe on a gay person’s right to a lifestyle. So…what’s the problem in this case? There are a lot worse things people could believe outside of God creating the world.
For example, someone could instead take Darwin’s musings about the destructiveness of weak humans breeding seriously, thus giving them an excuse to create some sort of an ethnic cleansing program. Oh wait, Hitler already did that.
Well, the Catholic Church has mostly wised up about getting involved in terrestrial questions of fact. So, certain questions (like, for example, whether life in the universe evolved, or whether the Holocaust happened) are not made articles of faith (and so Catholics may differ on them), even if the church acts consistently as if a certain answer is true (such as life having evolved, or the Holocaust having happened).
IMO, it’s certainly a better approach than trying to micromanage the huge numbers of questions that believers would have to decide on in the modern world.

You are mistaking greediness for education. Yes Madoff fooled some folks. As JESUS said, the root of all evil is money. He never said the root of all evil is science. You fundies made that up on your own. SERIOUSLY get an education in science (or at least philosophy of science) before you criticize it! Evolution has LOADS of evidence, what do you have?
YES! THEY ARE OFFENDING ME! I live in a state (Texas) where they want to teach creationism in the public school classrooms. This violates the 1st amendment and highly offends me!
