I heart Bill Maher!
This video had me laughing out loud! I’m still trying to figure out how I took this all so seriously at one time. I remember reading books like this, and really thinking they had figured it all out. *ugh*
Did anyone else get the sense from this clip that The Purpose-Driven Life might actually be very badly written gay erotica for people at a fifth-grade reading level?
What, you mean more than just the bit about Noah giving God pleasure? *snarfle*
I don’t know if it is for gays, but it i indeed written for the weakly minded.
One has to wonder if Ashley Smiths kidnapper “waved the white flag” simply because arrest was a better option than one more word of that drivel………
This is the reason I still pick up Christian books once in a while. They make for fantastically amusing reading!
Excellent idea – I’ll try that too. I haven’t read “The Purpose Drivel Life” (not a typo) but I just ordered it.
By the way, around 5 minutes in: What makes God smile? Bill Maher.
I read this book about a year ago. If one doesn’t take it at all seriously (which I didn’t) it’s very amusing. Robert M. Price wrote a pretty good response to it entitled, The Purpose Driven Life. He mirrored Warren’s arrangement and wrote 40 chapters that corresponded, roughly, with Warren’s 40 chapters. Reading both books side by side is entertaining. Don’t be overwhelmed by the “40 chapters” – each one is only 3-4 pages long.
Rick Warren writes like a 12 year old with a thesaurus who knows his audience is a 10 year old with a dictionary.
