Haha! I loved that episode. It was on a few weeks ago.
Ironic that that was ever shown on FOX.
Given that The Simpsons is usually too intelligent for most of the Fox demographic, it probably went unnoticed.
One thing I’ve noticed about Rupert Murdoch: He would launch a 24 hour channel praising Satan himself if he thought it would make him a buck. I’m not even sure if he’s really is a conservative, but I think he knows he can make a shitload of money pandering to them with Fox News.
Years later, and I still love the Simpsons.
Matt Groening is a GENIUS:
“…Children! Drown her out with whistles and armfarts!”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA….!
Matt Groening is my 4th cousin…our family’s one claim to fame and I’m so proud of him!!! I am surprised at how provocative this episode was – I find the Simpsons are usually a bit more subtle in their approach to “controversial” subjects (I say that in quotations because it’s so ridiculous that it IS controversial).
Loved it.
THE George Will?
Magic man done it!
Anybody know what that puzzle fade out was a reference to?
the mystery/puzzle of the missing link?
I hate the ending. The final idea that cretinism is a respectable personal choice looks like a coward attempt to appease fundies.
Yeah, I was loving it up until that moment! “I respect your beliefs”? Your misguided, fabricated, non-evidence-based beliefs? She should have said, “I respect your right to believe any crazy thing you want, but….”
she didn’t need to. in true Simpson’s form, nelson popped out and called ned a “god wad”
the dis was inferred. not that dissing is required by those who are comfortable with their stance. it was a drole dis, though.
I love this episode. You should totally check out a particular episode of family Guy where their daughter Meg becomes a born-again Christian after watching Kirk Cameron on television. She drove everyone crazy, especially Brian who is an atheist.
Brian: Ok, fine. Then let me just ask you this.
If there were a God would he put you here on Earth with a flat chest and a fat ass?
Meg: I’m made in his image?
Brian: Really?
Would he give you a smoking hot mom like Lois and then have you grow up looking like Peter?
Meg: Well..
Brian: And what kind of God would put you in a house where no one respects or cares about you?
Not even enough to get you a damn mumps shot!
Family Guy is so awesome in their approach to politics and religion – I think I will start the Church of Brian (I LOVE that dog…intelligent, fascinating, well-read, a bit tormented…too bad he’s so in love with Lois)
that is one damn funny show.
It would seem if Springfield is a satire on a typical America town, them most of its residents, like most Americans, believe in some form of creationism. I read most Americans believe in Noah’s Ark.
Charles Darwin drunk and dancing with Satan, was that written by Ray Comfort?
reminds me of these two clips:
