Atheism and Death.

I want to share a couple of experiences with you all and talk about the directions that those experiences have sent me in emotionally and cognitively. Here goes.
About a year ago, I was involved in my first ever “crash-call”. A crash-call in a hospital setting basically means that a patient who you are not expecting [...]

Muslims against terrorism.

An interesting story on the BBC; about a Muslim cleric, Dr Muhammad Tahir ul-Qadri, who has issued an unequivocal  600 page Fatwah against terrorism, and who runs a sort of anti-terrorism Summer school for young Muslims.
Some of the arguments he uses are quite weak, being based on a combination of scripture and some fairly torturous [...]

Oh, Queensland….

I read this on Pharyngula today and… Wow. I’m not even going to comment on it. I’m just going to let you read it:
“PRIMARY school students are being taught that man and dinosaurs walked the Earth together and that there is fossil evidence to prove it.
Fundamentalist Christians are hijacking Religious Instruction (RI) classes in Queensland [...]

For anybody who’s never seen Monkey Dust, it was an animated sketch show on BBC4 that was…. Well, it was edgy. I always used to prefer to watch it on my own because I felt like people were judging me for laughing at some of it.

I know Daniel gets a little bit annoyed at me sometimes for being quite proud of my country’s secular ways, but I’m putting that down to jealousy over stories like this one:
“Answering questions from MPs on the Commons education select committee on Wednesday, Mr Gove [Michael Gove, UK Education Secretary] said: “One of the most [...]

Twilight is like soccer…

… Everybody runs around for two hours, nobody scores and a billion fans tell me that I “just don’t understand!” [nb - I stole that line directly from Daniel's Facebook feed but I don't feel guilty since I'm pretty sure he nabbed it from somebody else].
It’s been a while since I’ve had a good old [...]

Man hit by six meteorites; blames ‘aliens’

I normally wouldn’t rip a headline (or even a story) straight from the Micro$haft Network, but this one was such a doozie that I thought it would be fun to share anyway:
A Bosnian man insists he is being targeted by extra-terrestrials after his house was hit by meteorites six times in three years.
Radivoje Lajic, [...]
