I've been reading a lot about Jesus and his golden rule on these forums and I just wanted to say how it was said by other people from different times and places. It may not have been said exactly the same way, but it does mean the same in many cases. Confucius is the most popular known example of this, but there are others and i found a site that tells you them. go check it out:

PS: I think originality is overrated, but as far as I know none of Jesus' ethical teachings were original.

I agree [with the info in rA's link] that the golden rule has an evolutionary basis, hence it cropping up all over the place. To me, it doesn't make sense to pick a single proponent and call them the source of all morals (e.g. Jesus).
